Welcome to Breakaway Test Prep!
We are the Twin Cities’ leading provider of private, one-on-one ACT and SAT instruction. We are thrilled that you are considering working with Breakaway as your child prepares for his or her upcoming standardized test.
Our combination of a proven approach, top-notch instruction from experienced instructors, and access to weekly proctored practice tests makes test-prep with Breakaway unbeatable.
Why work one-on-one?
We often have families request our one-on-one services after having gone through a group ACT course with disappointing results. Quite simply, one-on-one private instruction is unequivocally the most effective, efficient, results-oriented form of test-prep. The reasons are simple. In a private setting, your student’s instructor is going to be able to immediately identify areas of opportunity and discuss concepts relating specifically to your student’s needs. Whereas, in a group setting, it is very easy for a student to not ask questions, or simply not have an opportunity to spend as much time as they would like on a particular concept.
We often like to draw a parallel between group fitness classes compared to working with a personal trainer. Of course, in a group fitness class, as long as you are consistently attending the class, you should see improvements in your physical fitness. But, just as obviously, those improvements will be limited. After all, the onus will be on you to self-motivate. On the other hand, working with a personal trainer will be significantly more helpful, as that trainer will be able to cater the program specifically for you. Test-prep is no different, and it is why, without any question at all, private, one-on-one prep is absolutely the most effective way to prepare.
How does it work?
As already stated, one-on-one instruction is at the heart of what we do. Each of our students are matched with two instructors. One instructor focuses exclusively on the English, reading, and writing portions of the test, while the second instructor covers math and science.
If your child has not taken a recent, real ACT within the last 3-4 months, we recommend signing up for a practice test offered at our main offices in St. Louis Park. You can sign up for a practice test here. Beginning with a practice test gives your child an opportunity to deal with the pressures of the testing environment while getting practice on all sections of an ACT in a classroom full of their peers. It also provides us with a baseline score, and gives us an immediate understanding of areas of opportunity.
If a recent ACT has been completed, we recommend jumping right into our rigorous, one-on-one program.
